Wraven Kingdom
Wraven once stood as the jewel of the northern realms, a kingdom where commerce, military might, and magical innovation flourished under the wise rule of King Amos II. For three decades, his balanced approach to governance allowed both mundane craftsmen and arcane practitioners to contribute to the realm's prosperity.
This golden era ended abruptly during a crucial diplomatic summit aimed at resolving the long-standing territorial conflict between Wraven and the neighboring Kingdom of Vira. King Amos II was assassinated — a masterfully executed attack that left his royal guards helpless and the diplomatic chamber in chaos.
Prince Nicholas, next heir to the throne, ascended amid this turmoil. He publicly declared spellcasters responsible for his father's murder and swiftly enacted increasingly severe anti-magic legislation. Within months, practicing magic in any form became a capital offense throughout Wraven. The kingdom's once-celebrated arcane institutions were dismantled, magical artifacts confiscated, and those with known magical abilities—regardless of their status or previous service to the crown—were imprisoned.
Whispers spread through Wraven's remaining noble houses, however. Some courtiers privately question the convenient timing of the assassination and Nicholas's suspiciously well-prepared response. These skeptics note how quickly the new king implemented the Arcane Shackle technology in prisons across the realm, as though such preparations had been underway long before his father's death.
Today, Wraven exists in a state of paranoid vigilance. Citizens inform on neighbors suspected of magical ability, while royal inquisitors conduct raids on homes and businesses. The dungeons swell with prisoners — some genuine practitioners, others merely victims of personal vendettas or mistaken identity — as King Nicholas's purge continues unabated.
